Bar Luce – Fondazione Prada – Milan, Italy

Milan is a city I have visited several times over the past few years as I’ve been lucky enough to be able to visit through my job. Earlier on this year we took another trip to the city to visit Salone de Mobile Milano trade show and see all the new designs from the furniture brands that we represent.
With a morning free before our flight home it only seemed right to tick something off the bucket list and visit Bar Luce. A place that I had been ogling on Instagram for the past year and had been dying to see in person. Luckily we weren’t staying too far away so it only took a short tram ride and a 5 minute walk from our apartment with the help of the trusty Citymapper app we found it without getting lost. It is a very discreet entrance so you need to know what you are looking for but once inside I was in Wes Anderson pastel colour interior heaven.

Bar Luce is a cafe bar designed by the film director, Wes Anderson and can be found inside the OMA designed Fondazione Prada in Milan. It was designed with the idea of recreating the atmosphere and style of old Milanese cafes from the 1950’s and 60’s. Wes Anderson was commissioned by fashion house Prada to design this space within their new arts centre which is also worth exploring if you’ve got the time.
When you are sitting in Bar Luce it looks out onto the 24 carat gold leaf structure of the Fondazione Prada which you can visit and wander around the courtyards free of charge. To visit the cinema, gallery and haunted house there are admission fees which will vary depending on what is on at the time. We unfortunately didn’t have time to visit this area but definitely worth a proper look if you have the time.
If you are a sucker for interiors and a bit of a Wes Anderson geek this place is well worth the visit.
The bar can be accessed directly from Via Orobia – just look out for the sign below as it is well hidden which makes all the more exciting once you get inside.
